About the Level 2 Veterinary Care Support Assistant
The Level 2 VCSA qualification is aimed at those working in veterinary practice, in a veterinary care supporting role.
The course is intended to provide you with the relevant practical skills and the associated underpinning knowledge that will enable you to provide a good level of support to the Veterinary team.
If you are interested in developing your career in the Veterinary Care industry, the Level 2 qualification is a good stepping stone to progress to the VetSkill Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Companion Animal) qualification (subject to additional entry conditions which may be required).
The qualification and associated units serve as competence and knowledge qualifications corresponding to the Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship standards 2018.
To gain your qualification, you will need to complete 240 hours of online learning as well as an associated e-portfolio. Your assigned workplace mentor will assist you throughout your training.
Class notes and supplementary material are available on OneFile and an early lesson will include the OneFile user guidance.
We also encourage all our students to use additional resources for their learning, such as internet research, textbooks, using the suggested reading list and submit word-processed assignments deriving from the given work.
The course will be delivered over 15 months. Over this timeframe of completing your course content, you will need to complete 600 hours in veterinary practice.
You will be required to carry out combined hours of self-study, attend online lessons, and work through your e-portfolio to complete the course.
You will be expected to work a minimum of 30 hours in a Veterinary practice. 20% of your work hours will be allocated by your employer for your off-the-job training to use as study time.
