The Level 2 Animal Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship course…
… is ideal for those who enjoy working with or around animals and who would like to work in a pet shop, kennel, or animal shelter. This apprenticeship standard is a good starting point if you are new to animal care or if you already have basic knowledge or skills. It may also be used as a stepping-stone onto a Level 3 Diploma in Animal Welfare qualification, subject to meeting additional entry requirements.
The apprenticeship programme combines online learning with practical work experience, which requires all apprentices to be in employment:
Full time: a minimum of 30 hours per week, combined with 20% off the job training
Part-time: a minimum of 19 hours per week, combined with 20% off the job training.
The duration of the course is 15 months, with 12 months online and practical learning time, followed by three months preparation for the EPA (End Point Assessment). The course duration for part-time work extends to 21 months, with 18 months learning and three months of EPA preparation time.
We are working with OneFile software to allow transparency between provider, apprentice, and employer.
Students have 24/7 access to all learning materials and assistance from our student support team and tutors. Online remote observations will be carried out every 12 weeks throughout the course. Upon completion of the course, a 3rd party assessment organisation (Lantra) will carry out a practical observation and a professional discussion with the apprentice.
Course Eligibility criteria
- There are no formal entry requirements for eligibility for the course however you will need to be working or have secured employed work in order to complete your apprenticeship.
